Yeah I definitely agree, I think any form of restrictive licensing would be undesirable for many reasons.

Yet at the same time, self-regulation is better than government regulation. It’s not inconceivable that we have a magnitude 8 or 9 event where data scientists misbehave and the government is forced to step in to satisfy public concern.
